Bodywork for Healthier Youth

The Importance of Touch

Bodywork not only helps to relieve stress and tension but can also improve circulation, flexibility, and range of motion. It can also provide relief from discomforts commonly experienced by teens such as acne, headaches, and muscle soreness, as well as recovery from injuries and traumas. Additionally, physical touch and relaxation can improve mood and mental health.

Benefits of Bodywork for Youth

Developing bodies go through a tremendous amount of change in a short period of time. Nervous systems are developing, emotions are all over the place, hormones are spiking, focus becomes more difficult, and mood swings are in full gear. The biochemical power of touch can help with so many things.

Our Approach & What to Expect at Your Visit

Practitioners at New Atlantis are highly trained in a variety of modalities to assist your child with their holistic health needs. As moms ourselves, Amanda and Holly actively utilize our therapies with our own children to help create a foundation of health and vitality for years to come.

Massage for Teens

Various types of massage therapies cater to different needs. Based on your specific condition, a massage therapist can recommend the most appropriate type of massage. Some of the most common options include:

Swedish massage: This type of massage uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration, and tapping to promote relaxation and stimulate circulation. It is an ideal option for stress relief and relaxation.

Deep tissue massage: This massage involves slower strokes and deeper pressure, focusing on the inner layers of muscles and tissues. It is recommended for chronic muscle pain, injuries, and postural problems.

Sports massage: This is a specialized form of massage, aimed at treating injuries, reducing pain, and enhancing athletic performance. It combines various massage techniques, stretching, and other rehabilitation exercises.

Craniosacral Therapy for Teens (13-17 years)

As teenagers grow and navigate through the challenges of adolescence, the effects of stress and anxiety can often take a toll on their overall well-being. Craniosacral Therapy has been shown to provide numerous long-term benefits for teenagers, including reduced stress levels and increased relaxation. Regular sessions can also improve sleep patterns and promote better mental health. Additionally, craniosacral therapy can help alleviate physical pain caused by sports injuries or posture issues. By investing in craniosacral therapy as a form of self-care, teenagers can establish healthy habits that benefit their physical and emotional health well into adulthood.

Craniosacral Therapy for Kids (5-12 years)

If we can treat an individual early in life, we can prevent or resolve many conditions that can become foundational markers and patterns that extend into adulthood. Craniosacral Therapy can positively affect developmental, structural, sensory, learning, behavioral and personality disorders.

Such conditions may include accidents & physical trauma, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/with Hyperactivity (ADHD), Autism, behavioral problems, birth Trauma (Pre-natal, Birth, and Post-Natal), Cerebral Palsy, developmental delays, frequent infections, gastrointestinal disturbances, ear infections and eustachian tube problems, oral motor disorders, headaches, orthodontic problems, orthopedic conditions including Scoliosis, sinus & breathing problems, sleep disorders, vision problems, and much more.

What to Wear

The most important factor when doing bodywork sessions is the child’s level of comfort. Massage therapy is typically performed on bare skin using creams and oils while nestled under warm blankets. However, athletic wear or comfy clothing is perfectly acceptable if that’s what will help your child relax on the table. Craniosacral therapy sessions work over the clothing, so undressing is not needed to achieve results.
